Kyle Brewer - Design Specialist
How long have you been with Rapids?
I started on December 1st 2014.
What was your favorite project? Why?
Quincy High School. Since this was one of the first projects I got to work on after being hired it was a great learning experience. What made this job especially fun for me was the school wanted to implement a coffee shop in the second phase of design. Having a coffee shop in a high school was a first for me so I was really excited to see what we could come up with in design. Working with the team we were able to come up with a layout that utilized the space to its full potential and the school took notice and decided to incorporate the coffee shop in phase one instead of waiting till phase two.
What was your most challenging project? Why?
Constellation. This was challenging mostly because the job is based in Mexico. This required taking extra steps to consider another countries design requirements, drawing in meters, and converting title blocks to Spanish. This caused me great regret for taking French in high school instead of Spanish.
What was your solution?
The solution to working past these obstacles was creating a relationship with the team and working together to do the research, translations, and conversions necessary to get the job done. I will have no worries when it comes to converting drawings from feet & inches to meters in the future, but I may still need a little help with my Spanish.

What do you like to do on a Sunday afternoon?
Every Sunday my partner, son & I make pancakes then head straight to the swap meet at the Lemp Brewery. There we listen to live music, shop for re-purposed items, soak in the historic architecture, and eat some of our favorite local fare from the food trucks. After we’ve had our full we head over to Cherokee Street and hit up all the great antique stores.
If we gave you next week off, what would you do with your time?
I would pack up the family and take a road trip to New Orleans. It’s the next city on my destination wish list. Great music, great food, amazing culture, and swamp tours!
What was your last “oh my god this is perfect” meal?
That would have to be a burger with Guinness glazed onions and a side of dill potato salad with a pint of Hefenweizen from Blatt Beer & Table in downtown Omaha.
What is your best dish?
My baked mostacciol. I have a list of people who demand to come over whenever I make this for dinner.
