Lamy's

The Lamy’s building was home to a Levi’s factory for more than 50 years, helping those in the surrounding community to provide for their families. Now, the Lamy’s building supports the community in a different way: in addition to the offices and apartments on the second and third floors (respectively), the newly renovated first floor now includes Josey Record Store, Ox Horn Market (a general store/coffee shop), and #5 Bistro & Bar. Located near where the state fair and an annual blues fest is held, this building is well-situated as a community hub.

Rapids designed the layout for this new setup, and provided all of the equipment and furniture.

Much of the appeal of this project lies in the open concept design – there is an open sight line between the restaurant and records store, as well as an open sight line to the kitchen (along with seating for customers to watch cooking performances!). This layout creates a more welcoming, inclusive atmosphere for everyone who visits.

Another approach that makes this space work for everyone in the community was the separation of the #5 Bistro & Bar bar and restaurant. The bar was designed to evoke more of a speakeasy ambiance, while the restaurant is more family-friendly (but still shares many of the elegant accents present in the bar’s design). The restaurant can seat around 85 people indoors and includes a patio that overlooks the historic Amtrak railyard.

The Ox Horn Market sells many local products (including craft beer), as well as coffee, muffins, and other standard coffee shop fare. Additionally, it has a communal space for open mic nights, poetry readings, charitable events, and community gatherings.
