I have worked in the foodservice industry for twenty plus years. I have worked with many types of people during my foodservice journey. Luke Green is just as his title states, a specialist. With Walk-ins being the largest part of a kitchen in most kitchens, it takes a special talent to make it all work. Luke and I have worked closely together over the years to create some of the best kitchens in the industry. Luke has the knowledge and understanding of the customer’s needs to make the transition from paper to product a seamless process. He works with our customer’s on a daily bases to bring our product a reality for most that would not even know the Kolpak name/brand. His attention to detail when it pertains to quote requests and drawings surpass many of his peers in the industry. I have worked with Luke’s peers and he has assisted with projects that was not his to run. His knowledge and training allow him to jump into any situation and keep both the customer and the OM out of hot water. One situation comes to mind when in this line of thinking. We had a customer that was not sure about a project outlining multiple walk-ins on site. The floor application was not certain and with Luke’s design skills, we worked together to work out the logistics and requirements to not only be an affordable option for the customer but work in line with what our manufacturing capabilities would be to work best to accommodate the customer’s needs. Luke has saved not only time but money to both his customers and our company by bringing ideas to the table before it becomes an issue. I continue to respect Luke and Rapids for the job well done. The Linn-Mar Community School District utilized the services of Rapids Foodservice Contract and Design for the remodeling design and construction of the Linn-Mar High School kitchen in 2016. The kitchen design work, kitchen equipment selection, installation and start-up of foodservice equipment was directed by Luke Green, Contract and Design Specialist for Rapids Foodservice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

On behalf of Mr. Green, I write this DRS letter of recommendation to emphasize the professional dedication exhibited by Mr. Green as he ensured this kitchen project was completed on time for the start of the 2016-2017 school year.

I believe it is important to highlight the work undertaken by Mr. Green for this kitchen remodeling project. Mr. Green provided:

  1. The architectural design team and the school district several design options for a challenging location and a very short construction design timeline.
  2. Hands-on work with the school district to recycle and remove existing kitchen equipment prior to the start of the construction phase.
  3. Professional consultation during the construction phase to ensure accurate installation of all kitchen appliances.
  4. Technical support and oversight for the start-up of all appliances.

In addition, Mr. Green has provided timely services to address warrantee repairs of some kitchen appliances.  With all the professional services provided, Mr. Green has provided exemplary services to the Linn-Mar School District and is deserving of the recognition of DRS of the Year and I fully support his candidacy for that award.

When Jason and Kyle first made the 3 hour drive to our small town I’m sure they had no idea what they were getting themselves into. They soon found themselves in a dust-filled 3 story brick building with half a dozen people that all had their own unique idea of what it would become. The 120 year old apparel manufacturing building was in the midst of a massive overhaul to turn it into a mixed use facility with luxury loft apartments, office space, retail and restaurants. While operating businesses and developing real estate wasn’t new to the owners the restaurant business was brand new. As we stood in what is now the bar of a popular bistro Jason asked our group what type of items we would have on our menu. Immediately 6 people started talking and saying completely different things. This is when Jason and Kyle started to show the type of value they could bring to the table. They began taking measurements of the space and asking more direct questions about our expectations for the finished space. By the time they left from our initial visit we all knew that we had lucked into finding the right company to partner with to bring our concepts to life. Their first design iteration was wildly different from anything any of us had imagined, and aside from a couple of very small changes we now had a plan in place. Jason had an equipment bid back to us within days and Kyle had catalogs of restaurant furnishing options to us even faster. We compared prices with other vendors and quickly learned that not only was their service superior their pricing was unmatched as well. This industry changes staff membersregularly, and Luke has helped in those transitions by spending time with new department heads andinstructors that control expenses and works with them to get acclimated on how his purchasing processworks, builds a great relationship with them so they can reach out to Luke as needed, and communicateswith our teams in a timely fashion.
