University of Iowa: Catlett Residence Hall

Tapped once again by designers Rippe & Associates, Rapids was awarded the contract for the commercial foodservice spaces in the University of Iowa’s newest residence hall, Catlett Hall. This project is amongst the largest single contracts in our storied history; an excellent testament to the scale of what our teams are capable of achieving.

The university has dubbed the foodservice facility Catlett Market Place, and for good reason. Catlett Market Place boasts nine different serving stations in total, offering a large variety of food choices including made-to-order items as well as pre-packaged “grab-and-go” meals.

From pizzas and burgers to salads and wraps, there is much to choose from. Breakfast (all day), Lunch and Dinner service is provided. Students explore serving stations such as Catlett Sprouts (light and healthy), Catlett Family Table (comfort food), Catlett Za! (Italian inspired), Catlett Flavors Abroad (International Cuisine), Catlett Fire Up (American and BBQ) and Catlett Delights (dedicated desserts, breads, and cereals) to name a few.

Boasting the latest in technology at every corner, the commercial kitchen spaces are state-of-the-art and highly efficient. One of the most unique features of the kitchen is the use of Water Wash Hood Systems. The hood filters do not need to be removed to be cleaned. Sensors and timers monitor the hood filters, and water washing is automated – allowing the staff to make better use of their labor hours while ensuring peak performance from the ventilation systems at all times.
