Cafe 655 at Principal Financial

Café 655 is a breakfast/lunch hub located in The Principal’s Corp 2 building, handling more than 1,000 transactions a day. It offers 24/7 Micro Market access as well as serviced breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday.

The main goal of this project was to move the café from the third floor to the first, taking over underutilized catering, storage, and office space and making the café more accessible and attractive to employees. Rapids was brought on as a Foodservice Consultant by OPN Architects to collaborate with various team members to ensure an efficient, modern, and inviting servery.

The new space was fairly limited, so the design had to be extremely effective, which was accomplished by rearranging the work flow and using multi-purpose equipment, such as hot/cold food wells. Not only did this allow for streamlined operations, it also added the benefits of increased menu flexibility and faster turn times between breakfast and lunch. The final design reduced the overall footprint without jeopardizing the quality or quantity of food.

Throughout the project, Rapids worked closely with Graham Construction and DCI Group to ensure this multifaceted undertaking was completed on time and met the needs of both the owner and their foodservice operator.
