RAPIDS & AFFILIATES Military Recognition Day – Above and Beyond Award

We are proud to announce that Rapids & Affiliates has been honored with the prestigious “Above and Beyond Award” by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). This recognition follows a heartfelt nomination by Randy Snyder fall 2023, highlighting our unwavering support for employees who are members of the National Guard and Reserve.

Recognizing Commitment and Support

The ESGR, a national organization, focuses on employer outreach to ensure that both the Guard and Reserve members, along with their employers, fully understand the importance of their support to national security. The ESGR’s mission is rooted in history, dating back to the late 1960s during a time of national protests and significant political change. As Richard Nixon ran for president with a platform to eliminate the draft, it became clear that a volunteer force would be sustainable without compromising national security. This led to the establishment of ESGR to ensure ongoing support and understanding from employers towards the Guard and Reserve.

At the recognition event, an ESGR representative emphasized the vital role employers play in supporting national security by backing their Guard and Reserve employees. This support is crucial for these service members to perform their duties effectively.

Randy Snyder’s Nomination

Randy Snyder’s nomination beautifully captured our commitment. He wrote, “Eric has been very supportive of my journey as a service technician. Upon hearing about my upcoming deployment, Eric approved ordering custom R.E.D. (Remember Everyone Deployed) Fridays t-shirts for all 60 employees at no cost, encouraging everyone to wear them on Fridays. Although we have many veterans and other reservists, I would be the first one in our company’s history to be deployed.”

Randy further added during the recognition event and live call with him and the company, “Rapids provided continuous support over the years,” showcasing our dedication to ensuring that our employees feel supported and valued.

Eric Schmitt’s Speech

Eric Schmitt, our President, expressed heartfelt gratitude during the event. He acknowledged Randy and his father Dennis for their appreciation and Dennis’s original idea of R.E.D. shirts. “It is a good way to remember,” Eric said, emphasizing that the recognition is about everyone in the organization and the collective effort to support our Guard and Reserve members. “It is all about people,” he concluded.

A Community of Support

With 137 original nominations from the state of Iowa, only 20 were selected for a higher level of recognition, underscoring the significant impact Rapids & Affiliates has made. This award is a testament to our dedication to creating a supportive environment for our employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

We are deeply honored to receive the “Above and Beyond Award” from ESGR, and we remain committed to supporting our employees who play a crucial role in national security.
