The City High School Family and Consumer Sciences Room was built in Iowa City, IA, with the project led by Kade Yanda. This high school offers a hands-on culinary program designed to prepare students for culinary school and/or the workforce by providing real-world kitchen experience.

The space features six well-equipped stations, each designed to allow students to observe real-time demonstrations from the teacher through either an overhead demo mirror or a TV located on the wall. These features ensure that every student can closely follow along with the instructor, regardless of their position in the room. Although the cooking area is compact, it is designed for maximum functionality, giving students full access to all necessary equipment under the CORE Style exhaust hood, which offers flexibility by allowing equipment to be moved or removed as needed to match the day’s curriculum.

Induction ranges are located at each station, allowing students to cook alongside the instructor and practice techniques as they learn. The space is further equipped with overhead electrical cord reels, providing sufficient power for a variety of kitchen equipment, ensuring that students can work with the tools required to complete their lessons each week. The setup is designed to foster a collaborative and dynamic learning environment, helping students develop essential cooking skills while adapting to a professional kitchen setting.
