We’re proud to share some exciting news from NewBo City Market – one of its newest vendors, Nechus South American Food, has officially opened its doors, and Rapids was honored to play a role in making it happen.
As part of NewBo’s 2025 Spark Grant program, Rapids contributed $1,000 to help support Nechus with their build-out and equipment needs. This grant, combined with support from other community partners, gave owners Bianca Valles, Vanessa Valles, and Juan Madrid the boost they needed to bring their dream to life.
Nechus is now serving Cedar Rapids with authentic South American dishes inspired by family recipes passed down through generations. Menu favorites include arepas, empanadas, tequeños, patacon, and cachapas – foods that celebrate their Venezuelan and Colombian roots.
