Clay Carney

Contract & Design Specialist

Rapids Contract and Design specialists have the capabilities, experience and resources to handle any individual or supply project from concept to implementation, and they work with the customer every step of the way.

Nominator: Casey Saari

For: Being Personally Responsible

“Clay had 3 bids to get out by a deadline put forth a lot of work to meet those deadlines. One in particular had to be done by a deadline on a Friday that also happened to be during our company Christmas Party. Clay sacrificed all festivities to ensure our bid was in by the deadline which ultimately resulted in us winning the bid. During this time he minded his ping by just getting what needed to be done done, he was a problem solver by making sure to meet the deadline on his 3 bid of the week, he put the customer first in ensuring all bid documents were received, and he was ultimately personally accountable as he put it on himself to get it done. Well deserved D.E.E.M, epitome of what D.E.E.M is in my book.”

Words from our Vice President, Eric Schmitt:

Life can get hectic but as Bob Wiltgen would say, “Proper preparation prevents poor performance”! In this case, poor performance would be having chaos in the final preparation of the bids. For those who have not been part of an project bid estimation, it should be known that they are detailed, time sensitive, and pressure ridden. In this case, Clay worked diligently in planning his day out to make sure that he sent in the bid on time and he also ensured that it was not rushed which resulted in securing the bid for Rapids. It’s not easy to complete bids in a normal work week let alone when all of your peers are enjoying a party all around you. We all love being part of company gatherings and mingling with our peers (as we all should) but without the hard work that each and every one of us put in every single day, those gatherings wouldn’t be possible. By “Being Personally Accountable”, Clay recognized that he was ultimately responsible for completing the bid which he had spent weeks preparing regardless of what was happening. What can be taken away from this example? Think about the times you were just about to leave the office and a late phone call came in, or when you were on a job site where you saw an issue that could easily be walked away from but you decided to stay and talk to the GC about it. Those are times where being personally accountable has helped separate you, and the entire Rapids team, from the competition. In order to truly “Deliver Excellence in Every Moment” we have to be willing to make the extra push to get there. Clay has provided us a great example of what we should all be ready to do in order to win our customers’ ongoing business. Let’s all remember that “Being Personally Accountable” to our clients, our team, and our selves is what makes us the best partner to work with.

Prize:

For his win, Clay will be a “Mind Your Ping” t-shirt and entered into our Year End Employee of the Year voting. Thanks again, Clay, and all of the incredible Rapids & Affiliates team for the work you do every day to Deliver Excellence in Every Moment!
