Pay-It-Forward with Groundswell Cafe

Groundswell Cafe’s foundation is built upon a simple belief: everyone deserves access to healthy food. In order to make this a reality for those who live in Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area, Matthew 25 (a non-profit organization) decided to open a lunch cafe that operates on a pay-it-forward business model. Those who can afford to can make a donation that will be put towards the meals of those who can’t.

Eating at Groundswell is good for the community in more ways than one – most of the food served comes from Matthew 25’s Cultivate Hope Urban Garden. And to encourage interactions between the diverse set of customers, a community table is set up so you can easily converse with fellow diners.

Rapids was proud to be a part of this project, sourcing several pieces of kitchen equipment based on the needs of the restaurant, including two sandwich prep tables and a reach-in refrigerator and freezer.

Stop by Groundswell Cafe today to enjoy a delicious, fresh meal and help address the hunger disparity that affects so many in our nation.
